Welcome to my last entry of the semester
After studying the four macro skills we must get into practice, we were divided into 8 groups to do a demonstration of each productive and receptive skill assigned. It was interesting to see all the activities the groups developed in the classroom to promote writing, speaking, listening, and reading.
Here is the first group: LISTENING
The activities this group made were the following:
Listening test: they played a conversation and he had to write down the verbs
Kahoot game: answer questions about the conversation
Play a song: they played a Twenty One Pilots song and we had to write 2 sentences
I enjoy the activities and for the Kahoot game I was the winner
Second group: SPEAKING
The activities that this group performed were:
Spelling bee contest: spell the words correctly
Give advice using modal verbs: they provide the student with some scenarios like if you win the lottery what would you do? so the student would answer using modals verbs
Create stories with random images ( a dog playing piano and a frog in a motorcycle)
I participate in the activity where I had to provide advice using modal verbs and it was a little difficult because we only had like 15 seconds to answer and use all the modal verbs possible, but my group win.
Third group: READING
The activities they made are the following:
A reading about some situations that we can face online or using social media ( we had to answer some questions about the reading)
Word puzzle and True or False questions
My word puzzle is not complete because some words were not there, I was upset at the begginig because I am good at puzzles and it was hard to find some words but yes there were problems with the words.
Four Group: WRITING
The activities they made:
An invitation letter, here is the format they provide to us
They explains a little more about grammar, verbs, and connector and we fill out this sheet
Group number 5: LISTENING
Activities they made:
Play a song ( we must cross out the words we were able to hear from a printout)
Telephone (this was fun, it was very funny to hear the result, not even close to the original sentences that the group provided)
Group number 6: SPEAKING
This is my group and we only made one activity because of the time, we choose a controversial topic and students must discuss it in groups then we asked them for their opinions. The question was"At what age do you think a person is too old or too young to do them?" And there were topics like getting a tattoo, taking a selfie, etc. It was interesting how they all get into a mini-debate in their group discussing every subject we provided.
Group number 7: READING
Activities they made:
Papa Caliente ( after reading a story the one who gets the ball had to answer some questions regarding the story)
Kahoot game about another reading
Both activities were fun
group number 8: WRITING
The activities they made are the following:
Use our name and write sentences depending on the first letter
Create a story like the ones on Mad Lib Theather, here is the result we got from this activity
And yes I am Katy la Oruga
Well, I hope you enjoy reading about the 8 presentations.
And this is my last blog of the semester, and I am sad about it, I don't consider myself a writing person that enjoys doing it but to be honest, I was getting used to it, so I will keep practicing. My experience with English Didactics 1 was very pleasant, I feel I learn a lot, and we studied so many interesting topics that will be so helpful in our future so I am so glad that we learn all this with the best teacher ever, I want to thanks Mr. Orlado for sharing with us all these topics and his knowledge. I appreciate the time you take to prepare the classes in an interesting way so we can be active in the classroom and thank you because you always made us participate in all the activities, I believe to learn we need to practice and practice.
I don't have words to explain how grateful I am for this course, because I feel I learned a lot and if one day I decided to become a teacher I want to be like Mr. Orlando who is a real role model and he really teaches with passion, I was able to see that he really love what he is doing.
It was a pleasure writing this blog, thank you for reading and I hope we can continue next semester.
With love, Kat
