VOICE PROJECTION

Hello, welcome to a new entry :)

This week we will discuss the importance of the voice because our voice projection will allow our audience to hear and understand us more easily. It will help build our confidence as a speaker, give us a natural authority, and help us hold attention. But it isn't as simple as just shouting or straining your voice to be louder.

The teacher asked us to perform different activities to practice our voice projection, we started with IMITATION, where we had to imitate a man, a woman, and a child. For me, the most difficult part was to imitate a man, because they have a stronger voice.

Here we are in groups doing this practice:

The second activity was about RESONANCE where we had to sing and pronounce vowel sounds in a good and long way (holding notes). Singing is not something that I like because I don't have a good voice but I tried and we have fun. But something cool that we learned is that Teacher Orlando sings really well, I love the way he sings, he stated he was not that good, but teacher please don't lie to us, you sing very well.

The third activity was about BREATHING and for this one we had to have a conversation while exercising and moving backward/forward,  it was like doing some gym exercises and talking at the same time.

For the four activity ARTICULATION we used a pencil in our mouth in order to articulate sounds and to be honest, was a difficult task but we had fun.

To sum up, we had a classmate's presentation, she works at a radio and she has an impressive voice, she provided us with a lot of advice on how to get better with our tone of voice, we practiced with her different intentions: neutral/natural, venta/commercial, and institutional.

we practiced these intentions with the following phrase:

Nidia's presentation:

For us as interpreters, it’s so essential to understand how to use voice projection properly because we must speak a lot when we are doing interpretation, and of course, we want to sound natural/clear and deliver the message in a nice way.  I personally have to work a lot on my voice but one of my goals will practice exercises like the ones that we performed in the classroom to sound more professional.

I hope you enjoy reading this entry and if you have any questions about the voice projection please let me know.

With love, Kat
