Learning Styles

Welcome to a new entry :)

Today let's learn about "Learning Styles

There are four types of learning stylesvisual, auditory, kinesthetic, and reading/writing. And is important to mention that learning style refers to the preferential way in which the student absorbs, processes, comprehends, and retains information.

Neil Fleming and Colleen Mills proposed, in 1992, the VARK model

And one interesting aspect is that 100% of the population uses a combination of all three styles listed above.  And most often one type is dominant.

Why is important to understand your learning style?

Better major selection.

A better strategy in choosing courses that are aligned with how you learn.

Strategize ways to do better in your courses.

Now let me explain a little bit about each learning style

If you are a visual learner, you learn by reading or seeing pictures. You understand and remember things by sight. You can picture what you are learning in your head, and you learn best by using methods that are primarily visual.

Auditory learning means that a student learns most effectively by listening. They would prefer listening to a lecture over reading a textbook, or hearing the instructions for a project instead of figuring it out hands-on. And they also like background music when they study.

A kinesthetic learner would rather perform physical activity to learn something, as an active participant, instead of passively listening to a lecture or watching a demonstration.

Read/write learners learn primarily by reading and writing. They prefer to learn information by reading notes, handouts, and textbooks. These learners make use of dictionaries and other reference materials. They also benefit by rewriting notes and rereading notes silently again and again.

I believe I have a little bit of each learning style, but we did the VARK Questionnaire and the learning style tests to have a better idea about what learning styles we use more. Here are my result of the 2 tests.

One main difference between Multiple Intelligence and Learning Styles is that multiple intelligences represent different intellectual abilities and learning styles, according to Howard Gardner, are the ways in which an individual approaches a range of tasks.

Also, we worked in groups to show our classmates if we were teachers how we will use these learning styles. Our group decided to talk about how we will teach the parts of the body using all the learning styles. we drew a child to help the students become familiar with the parts of the body. the students had the visual part which is looking at the picture, and the kinesthetic style in which the students are in movement to go and point out the parts of the body in the picture. The auditory style in which students must say the name out loud and read/write because they must read and write the parts of the body.

Here I share more photos of the other groups

If you have more questions about the learning styles, please let me know in the comments

Thank you so much for reading
