MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES

Hello, Welcome back to a new entry 😊

Today, we started a new topic “Multiple Intelligences” and I am very excited about this topic because the class is divided into groups to explain each multiple intelligences, but I will explain more about each group presentation in my next entry. Today, I just want to provide a brief explanation about what is multiple intelligences and explain how many they are.

Multiple Intelligences refer to a theory describing the different ways students learn and acquire information. These multiple intelligences range from the use of words, numbers, pictures, and music to the importance of social interactions, introspection, physical movement, and being in tune with nature.

Is a theory posited by Harvard developmental psychologist Howard Gardner in 1983. And the idea behind the theory of multiple intelligences is that people learn in various ways.

One quote that I like from Garner is this one “I believe that the brain has evolved over millions of years to be responsive to different kinds of content in the world”.

There are different multiple Intelligences:

Visual-spatial Intelligence: Being able to use visual aids to arrive at a solution. An example of this would be using a tool like Photoshop to design a new logo for a fictional client.

Logical-mathematical Intelligence: Being able to analyze problems logically and solve abstract problems. An example would be using mathematical concepts to solve a real-life mortgage scenario.

Bodily-Kinesthetic: Being capable of using the entire body and engaging in movement to skillfully address a challenge. An example would be performing CPR on a mannequin.

Linguistic Intelligence: Being capable of learning new languages and understanding how to use language to achieve goals. An example of this would be analyzing facts and preparing a speech to deliver in front of a group.

Musical Intelligence: Being able to produce and analyze pitch, rhythm, and sound. An example would be asking students to produce and edit a podcast episode or write a song showcasing their learnings from a course.

Intrapersonal Intelligence: Being able to fully understand oneself and to effectively regulate one’s own life and emotions. An example would be asking students to reflect on what their career goals are and what steps they’re taking to meet their goals.

Naturalist Intelligence: Recognizing and classifying the various plant and environmental species in one’s surroundings. An example would be asking students to label five different plants using their scientific names after a trip to a greenhouse.

Existential Intelligence: Being able to ask deep and critical questions about the broader human experience. An example would be asking students, “why are you here?”

Interpersonal Intelligence: Being able to detect and explore the intentions, moods, and desires of others. An example would be preparing a sales pitch with product discovery questions for a stubborn client.

But, as I mentioned before, we will learn more about these Multiple Intelligences in my next entries.

Also, the teacher asked us to work on a survey to know in which intelligence we have more skills, I will be posting the pictures you can try it as well to have a  better idea of which type of intelligence you are better. First, we have to answer the question using the number 0,1,2 depending on if we are good at doing what the question mentions. For example, I answered some questions with the number 2 because I am really good at doing that, 1 because I am not that good, and I used the number 0 with the things that I am really bad at or do not like to do. At the end we get the total points for each intelligence, and we colored the circle on the last page depending on the points.

I hope you enjoyed reading about multiple intelligences, if you have questions, please let me know in the comments.

I will be reading to you all soon.

With love, Kat
